Welcome to American University of Beirut's Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Alsaud Center for American Studies and Research. CASAR is dedicated to increasing international understanding primarily by increasing knowledge of the United States in the Middle East. CASAR pursues this goal through interdisciplinary teaching and research in American Studies -- focusing through a broad range of issues including the historical, cultural, and political issues -- and through outreach efforts such as conferences and public lectures. The Center's efforts are continuously evolving. It currently offers a Minor in American Studies and a MA in Transnational American Studies. Click here to subscribe to our email list.April 15, 17, and 18, 2018: International conference on "Latin America, al-Andalus and the Arab World," co-sponsored by CASAR and the Ph.D. program in Theatre and Performance at the CUNY Graduate Center and the Martin E. Segal Theatre Center, which are part of CUNY's MOU with AUB and AUB's Theater Initiative. The conference will begin on April 15 at 7pm with the play "Blood Wedding," written by Federico García Lorca and produced by AUB's Theater Initiative. The play is directed by Sahar Assaf and will be presented in the village of Hammana. The conference will continue on April 17 and 18 at AUB. On April 17 at College Hall, B1 and on April 18 at Bldg. 37 (behind Old Lee Observatory) from 9am-5pm. [program]
