Welcome to the Department of Computer Science

The Department of Computer Science at the American University of Beirut prepares students for advanced studies and professional careers in the dynamically changing world of computing and information technology. Our programs combine the theoretical foundations of computing with the practical knowledge of software development vital to industry, to provide broad and integrated curriculum.


  • The Computer Science Department and the Computer Science Alumni Chapter (CSAC) celebrated the 31st anniversary of the CMPS program with a MEGA reunion dinner featuring a futuristic speech on #MathematicalBiology entitled "Personalized medicine using computational methods" By keynote speaker Professor Hassan Fathallah of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), recipient of several awards and recognitions in the USA and Europe, like the prestigious BRATS Challenge Award.
  • The ArabWIC conference was opened by Professor Sana Odeh, Founder of Arab Women in Computing (ArabWIC), and Clinical Professor of Computer Science at New York University; Dr. Fadlo R. Khuri, AUB President; Her Excellency, Dr. Inaya Ezzeddine, Minister of State for Administrative Reform in the Lebanon, and Dr. Wassim El Hajj.
  • The 3 day ArabWIC conference, featured over 100 speakers presenting exciting Computer Science research as well as Applied technical talks, workshops, posters, hackathons for refugees focusing on teaching 50 girls from refugee apps development, speed mentoring, career fair and career coaching, and a gala. This conference brought people together, built bonds through shared interest in technology, and energized the participants from places as far apart as Canada, USA, Switzerland, to Algeria, Palestine, Yemen China, and Sudan. We were also delighted that our conference was trending during the week of the conference in Lebanon.
  • The First ever AUB Computer Science Alumni Reunion in the Americas is celebrating 30 years of Computer Science at AUB on September 2-3, 2017 in Boston/Cambridge, MA, USA.

  • Computer science team mentored by Dr. Mohamad Jaber won 1st and 2nd places at the ACM, LCPC Programming Contest. Congratlations!
  • Alumnus Raja Khalil Hammoud, SVP at Coupa Software has been recently selected (15) among the top 25 women leaders in SaaS (Software as a Service). IBM CEO Ginni Rometty is also among these top leaders. Coupa Software is a startup that went public last October - now worth US$1.7 Billion, thanks to Raja's vision and contribution. more...
