AUB connects Lebanon to GÉANT – a global research and education networking community
Through the established link between IT and the Arab States Research and Education Network (ASREN), AUB succeeded in joining Lebanon to the global research and education networking community; and by this, adding Lebanon to the 65 non-EU countries who are members of the GÉANT network. GÉANT's aim is to develop, deliver and promote advanced networks and associated e-infrastructure services. GÉANT's CEO, Steve Cotter, affirmed that this connection will allow Lebanon to be an active partner in EUMEDCONNECT3 project in the Eastern Mediterranean and it will also provide international opportunities for AUB and other Lebanese Universities' researchers and students to collaborate with their peers in Europe and globally.
AUB is currently working with 10 universities across Lebanon to formally establish the Lebanese Education and Research Network (LERN). AUB CIO Dr. Yousif Asfour is looking forward to build a community between AUB and the Lebanese universities by working on providing shared services and then using this community as leverage to build high bandwidth. The implementation of
has been a key in the debate over the benefit of establishing LERN.
